We make rake tedders with our own hands for a minitractor


Harvesting hay has always been considered a promising area of ​​agricultural activity. After all, this is the most practical way to provide livestock feed in winter.

At the dawn of technical progress, this event was carried out in two stages: the men mowed the grass, which was then raked into rolls. Such a plan for haying looks quite expensive. Nowadays, a rake rake is used to scoop hay.

It should be noted that this equipment has nothing in common with the usual rakes that exist in each subsidiary farm. In fact, it is a multipurpose complex operating in automatic mode and forming hay into neat rolls, convenient for transportation and storage.

Please note that the equipment is serviced by one operator. In this article, we will look at the technical parameters of such units, and describe how you can make a rake yourself.

Design features

The tedder rake is a wheel-finger-type unit mounted on an all-metal frame. The design is based on rotating rotors, each of which is displayed in a separate unit.

The rotors are mounted on conical bearings, the power required for rotation is transmitted through the drive shaft of the tractor. Each rotor is equipped with raking fingers, made of high strength steel.

Each rotor has about forty fingers. That working elements did not receive mechanical damages, fingers fasten on a spring suspension bracket.

The rake rakes are classified in several ways:

  1. According to the type of tractor used. There are two categories: tractor and horse. The first group performs the function of mounted or semi-mounted equipment for tractors, the second is designed for walk-behind tractor.
  2. According to the method of formation of the roll. Here you can select the transverse and lateral aggregates.
  3. According to the design of work items. On sale there are three types of rake tedders. Wheel-finger: have a depreciation system of work items, therefore, optimally suited for fields with complex terrain. Drum: durable and reliable design, consisting of independently rotating rings. Gear: units with variable angle of rotation and tilt of the teeth.
  4. According to the type of attachment to the vehicle.

Due to the design of working elements, these units are called "rake sun". This equipment is available in several versions. The key differences between the models is the number of rotors installed: 4 or 5.

From this directly depends on the covered area, and accordingly the performance of the equipment. The average productivity of the agitators is 6-8 hectares per hour. Recommended humidity of hay should not exceed 70%.

An exception is the model GVK-6, which is capable of forming a plant mass with a humidity of 85%.

The tedder rakes are operated and maintained by a single tractor driver. Due to the absence of complex elements and independent installation of rotors, the replacement of damaged work elements can be carried out in the field.

The advantages of rake tedders include the ability to adjust and double the rolls. In addition, the equipment can shake up the already finished rolls, which eliminates the risk of grass growing. Among the shortcomings can be noted weak undercarriage. This problem is especially noticeable in trailed models.

Can you do it yourself?

We have already mentioned that the tedder rakes do not have in the design of technically complex components and elements, so if you wish, you can make such a unit with your own hands.

On the Internet you can find various schemes and drawings of tedders designed and developed by home craftsmen. Given that the farmer doesn’t have every farmer, we will give an elementary design that is quite suitable for working with a walk-behind tractor.

Please note that a three-wheeled rake of the tedder is enough for the motoblock. If the equipment will be used with a tractor, the number of rotors can be increased to 5.

As a basis for improvised rake of the tedder, a metal pipe is used, on which brackets are mounted for fastening the rotors.

In order to provide the working elements with free rotation, two tapered bearings and a hub (for each rotor) will be required. This element can be borrowed in finished form from a VAZ car.

In addition, a hinge is installed on the frame for aggregating the mechanism to the traction device. The unit can be supplemented with a hydraulics system, which will translate the rake into the transport and working position.

The wheels of the impellers are made of sheet metal, about four millimeters thick. Steel wires with a diameter of up to 7 millimeters are used as raking fingers.

The resulting design is practically not inferior to the factory models. At the same time, the quality of the assembly, home-made modifications sometimes surpass industrial analogues.
