  • Plastic cellar for questioning: description, advantages, disadvantages, selection criteria, installation
  • How to build a cellar
  • How to build a basement in 2018

The issues of storage of home billets and conservation were decided by the device of the cellar under the floor of the house or cottage. At present, such premises still exist, which people can arrange for their surroundings. Technologies allow not only to dig a pit for a cellar, but also to make a waterproofing, to form high-quality ventilation. The most advanced development, the plastic cellar, has become a new step in the evolution of home storage technology.

What is a plastic cellar

The correct name is caisson. The transformation of the caisson for sewage into the cellar for products is fully justified. Since these tanks are structurally similar, and the functional features are a matter of engineering modifications. It must be said that the cellars for the products are supplied by the same manufacturers as the sewers implement.

Plastic container for storage ensures the safety of products. At the same time, its body is hermetically made of materials that are not susceptible to decomposition and corrosion, impermeable to moisture and provide sufficient thermal insulation. !! Another nice bonus of such an acquisition will be the complete protection of products from rodents. !!

The design of the plastic cellar is a sealed container of a cubic or cylindrical shape. The walls of the box are thick enough to protect the vegetables from freezing. The service life of such a body is from 70 to 80 years (Cracks may occur on the vessel body after the expiration date).

The internal structure of the cellar can be arbitrary - boxes, shelves, chests, shelves. Any design convenient for storing your products.

It should be noted the presence of ventilation in this room.

  • simple installation - the plastic container has a monolithic structure without seams; to install such a basement, you only need to dig a large trench of the correct shape and size,
  • the underground capsule can be placed anywhere in the land,
  • waterproof (but you need to monitor the groundwater level and dig a pit to the depth of soil freezing so that in spring the soil does not start squeezing the cellar out of the ground),
  • can be mounted under a building or in an open area,
  • sealed seamless tank is not afraid of atmospheric phenomena and moisture,
  • the presence of ventilation provides better preservation of products than in classic cellars,
  • bacteria and fungus do not develop on the surface of the plastic case,
  • rodents and insects will not get into the plastic product,
  • there is no smell in plastic
  • the plastic or polypropylene cellar is easy to maintain (it is easy to keep it clean and to carry out disinfection measures),
  • long service life.

  • high price,
  • fixed size range (it is impossible to order the capacity of the desired shape and size),
  • installation may require the help of experts,
  • poor ventilation system (additional refinement required - arrangement of the hood).

Nevertheless, it is much easier and faster to buy a ready-made cellar and simply bury it in the foundation pit than to equip the cellar manually.

Criterias of choice

According to the principle of installation, a plastic cellar can be:

In fact, the caisson for the cellar and sewer analogue differ in the quality of the materials from which they are made. That is, a device for storing products must have certificates of quality and safety. Plastic should not emit toxic substances and odors.

Basically, the dealers of plastic cellars sell together with the construction the installation and delivery services of the structure. That is, if you are scared of a large amount, specify whether you will make a pit for the money, concreting and installing a caisson.

It is not recommended to buy a plastic cellar from questionable manufacturers, since you plan to store food in the room. It is better to choose the capacity of a famous brand.

Undoubtedly, buying a plastic cellar is profitable. Determine the type of purchase required dimensions and manufacturer. Equip your cellar to your liking and store food in a safe and secure cellar.

By the way, I found that the same carrot is stored in the sand in the enchanting bags.

But what about potatoes: If the potatoes are stored at a temperature of from zero to two degrees Celsius with a humidity of about 90%, you can pour it with clean and slightly moistened sand. The sand must always be fresh - one that has not yet been used to store vegetables.

Thank you putnik1110 for the idea.

In the army warehouses we kept potatoes interspersed with sand. In the spring, the potatoes differed little from what was in the fall. They laid down a row of potatoes and poured over the sand 4-5 cm and again potatoes and so on.

Here it is a real way, so I thought that something is simple, but it’s impossible, thanks friend))) Was there any ventilation either or did it not matter?

Potatoes can be stored in any containers. Though roll up in the banks. It is also good to store in kerosene - and does not germinate, and is stored for a long time.
The question is in the quality of the potato after such storage.
You advice not to split hairs with caissons, but to make stupid shelves. Take the boxes from small plastic fruit. And store them kartohu, sprinkling spruce sawdust. Some kind of potato will still rot, but it will not infect other tubers due to moisture absorption by sawdust. In addition, phytoncides ate canned it for germination. And small boxes will give a guarantee that if a lot of tubers rot, the rest will not work.
Apples are also stored in the same way - they are dried and preserved, but not all are laid.
The only minus in apples is a slight coniferous flavor)). But svezhachok winter with a taste quite a go.
I put an experiment - the apples are still alive from last year. Kartoha too. But already lethargic. But not sprouted and not bend.

It is clear, but I thought the same with the spruce branches, and my parents kept it in the straw, then the neighbor in the garage said that he spreads it with the spruce branches. And last year's kartoha always flakes with time. In our basement, even without everything, pour on the ground if the potatoes practically do not rot. Then the idea in another garage (basement unfinished) to make additional rooms from the basement, and for the root crops I would like to build something in the floor, but not just anything, but to be really kept, aired. Many here will say that it is inconvenient to take from the floor, but this is not a hindrance to me.

So make a recess under the boxes. Look - you are making a well, 50 cm wide, 4 boxes long, 1.5-2 meters long. And you concrete and foam under the plaster. Well, to get a sandwich - wall + foam foam 3-4 cm + plaster. To avoid dew.
Next, you make (or rivet) a crate - this is an easy bookcase under the drawers with the cards. In the crate you put 3-4 boxes of potatoes. On the cage should be handles retractable. There will be 4-5 of these cages throughout the gap.
And the rising cover over the gap is also insulated.
Raised the lid (say on the hinges)
Raised one crate. Chose from the box kartohu in the bag. The bucket enters the box - one and a half, not more. Put the crate back.
The lid is closed.
Go on the lid - do not care. The gap does not sweat. You make a vent sieve on the iron lid and that's it.
And on occasion, there you can hide anything, from the trunk to the money. If you figure out to make a double wall where))))

ahaha))) cool. Thanks for the advice. And what if I start to dig, and there is water? I just began to take off with a shovel, I got to the clay with a very large moisture, i.e. I can dig to the same 0.5 meters, but it turns out that the water will go, hence the idea of the barrels.

A. Is the garage separate or what? If "or how", then dig a gap, and then in the gap is still a well of a meter and a half depth. The main thing is not to get into the vein and not get a well)) In case of a siege))
And so all the water will be collected in the well and there or deflate it, or hammer.
So the cellars were dried in the old days. Drainage.
Wiring and machine will not rot.

Well, the pit is lined with concrete slabs, not tied to the foundation of the garage.

I tried to dig further with a shovel, like the soil is wet, but without water))) suddenly it will turn out))) Thanks for the idea of the well)))

How to store carrots in the cellar in the winter?

It is clear that to create such conditions in the basement where other vegetables will be stored in addition to carrots is almost impossible, so it would be better if you try to make a kind of protective cover for it.

Carrots can be stored in:

  • Sawdust. They will create a layer that will inhibit the flow of air to the root, as well as protect it from cold and temperature fluctuations.
  • Sand. In this case, sand is also used as an interlayer, but vegetables are laid in a completely different way. Carrots are placed in rows, forming a pyramid. Each individual row is covered with sand (the layer must be at least 1 cm) and slightly sprinkled with water. With this storage method, it is extremely important to ensure that the vegetables do not touch each other.
  • Clay. It is diluted with water to the consistency of thick sour cream, and then the root vegetable is lowered into the resulting gruel for a couple of seconds, the protective shell is dried and the whole basket or wooden box is folded.

Storage methods:

  • Rowan, fern and wormwood leaves. Fold the beets in a wooden box and shift it with harvested leaves. With this method of storage, your roots will be protected not only from temperature fluctuations, but also from microflora, which provokes the decay of vegetables. The leaves of these plants throughout the winter will produce phytoncides that will kill pathogens.
  • Salt. This product creates a protective shell that fights not only with temperature indicators, but also with moisture. If you do not want to bother, then just sprinkle the beets with salt. It is best to store this root crop at a temperature of +2 to +4 and at 70% humidity.

And if the temperature indicators can still fluctuate in one direction or another, then you should monitor the humidity very carefully. If its performance rises to at least 80%, then your crop will begin to become covered with rot.

Any cellar is primarily intended for the storage of food. It should maintain certain conditions that extend the keeping quality of agricultural products:

  • lack of daylight,
  • constant low temperature
  • high air humidity
  • Fresh air.

Did you know? There are several tricks on how to successfully store various vegetables in the cellar. For example, beets and radishes should be placed in a clay talker, carrots should be stored in the sand, and potatoes should be stored in dried mint..

How to choose a design

There are two types of caissons:

  1. Made of plastic.
  2. Made of fiberglass.

They can also be prefabricated and solid. Therefore, when choosing a design, you should pay attention to these parameters. The second option is preferred because seamless containers have better tightness. Did you know?Potatoes need to be stored only in the cellar. A refrigerator for this purpose is not suitable, because in this case, the starch in the vegetable will turn into sugar, and the potatoes will become sweet to the taste. To choose the right design and install it, use our tips.

  • The caisson should be made of high quality and from environmental materials, with the purchase you should check the availability of documents, certificates, warranty obligations, GOSTs, etc.
  • Installation, as well as the choice of a place for installation, must be entrusted to specialists who, after inspecting the site, suggest the most suitable place to place the caisson, measure the groundwater level to make proper reinforcement, suggest the most suitable design. It is better if one firm will be engaged in the sale of the cellar and its installation. Therefore, when choosing an implementer, be sure to ask him if he provides installation and installation services.
  • If you are suitable in size, then you can purchase a ready-made plastic cube-shaped storage. If desired, its shape and size can be ordered, but this will significantly increase the price of the tank.

Installation of a plastic cellar

Installation of plastic storage consists of four main steps:

  1. Digging of the pit of the required size.
  2. Installing a concrete (reinforced concrete) slab or flooding the bottom with concrete.
  3. Setting the container on the stove, fixation with special devices.
  4. Covering the soil with sand and cement.

How this process looks in reality can be found on these videos.

Choosing a place for the "cube"

A prerequisite for choosing a place under the "cube" is the study of soils and the availability of communications. This is necessary both in order to choose the most optimal place, and in order for installers to know what equipment they need for installation. It is advisable to study in detail the site plan. Familiarize yourself with the storage rules for corn, cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions. In principle, the owner of the cottage can choose any place for the cellar arrangement, but it is better to give preference to the site where the lowest groundwater level is observed. Otherwise, to be safe, you can additionally build a drainage system that will drain water.

Important!Manufacturers of plastic cellars in their technical parameters write that the presence of high groundwater is not a problem for the installation of the caisson. However, it is still better to be safe and find a more suitable site and carry out high-quality “anchoring”, since weak reinforcement can lead to the fact that the waters push the cellar out. In this case, it will have to be reinstalled, which will entail additional costs..

Installation rules

The pit must be dug 0.5 m wider and longer than the container. If there is no possibility of an excavator entrance, then you will need to dig it manually. As a rule, the cellar is installed on a reinforced concrete slab previously placed in the pit. The slab must be perfectly level, for correcting you will need to measure the level. If there is no possibility to put the slab, then iron fittings are put on the bottom, which can then be reinforced with a 20-centimeter concrete screed.

The container is attached to the slab with special slings. For example, you can lay metal cables at the bottom of the pit, then lay a slab on them, and secure the cellar with the remaining ends on both sides. So the design will be sustainable. Important! If you have equipment and several assistants (five to six people), you can install the container without hiring professionals for one day. If manual digging of a ditch and concreting of its bottom is required, the process may take a month and a half. After placing the caisson in the pit, the gaps between its walls and the walls of the pit are filled with cement-sand mixture. Next, proceed to the interior decoration. It can be easily made independently using the instructions from the manufacturer. It will be necessary to install light, ventilation, stairs, racks, boxes for fruits and vegetables. Did you know?Vegetables and fruits should be stored separately, in different containers. However, if there is no such possibility, then it is necessary to know that, for example, it is strictly forbidden to save some of them together. For example, potatoes and apples should be placed as far as possible, since the fruit releases ethylene gas, contributing to the rapid spoilage of the vegetable. Potatoes also can not be stored next to the onion, otherwise the onion will soon rot.

Tips and tricks

  • Before you buy a ready-made cellar, ask what kind of cellars your neighbors in the area use, what problems they have, whether there is ground water nearby.
  • If desired, the walls of the cellar can be further warmed. This can be done independently.
  • Be sure to warm the lid of the cellar. For this suitable foam.
  • But the "improve" the ventilation system is not recommended. Improper actions can lead to the fact that in a room with vegetables and preservation will exceed the humidity of the air, which will serve as a source of condensate, mold, fungal plaque and other troubles.
  • Do not chase for cheap. Too cheap cellars do not happen. Such proposals should be alarming.

Popular manufacturers

Today there is a wide selection of manufacturers of plastic cellars. However, the most popular are two:

Triton is cheaper than Tingard. Its price with installation starts from 80 thousand rubles. On the market are different sizes: from small - 2 cubic meters. m, to large - 16 cu. m. For storage of stocks of an average family of three or four people will be enough volume of 3-4 cubic meters. m

This cellar is made without seams, its walls are reinforced with stiffeners. The caisson includes a ladder made of metal, plastic shelves, lighting, ventilation system.

The price of the Tingard company cellar and its installation starts from 150 thousand rubles. It is also a seamless construction, equipped with stiffeners. Wall thickness - 15 mm. The set includes wooden shelves, wooden flooring, metal stairs, light and ventilation. The plastic cellar is an excellent alternative to conventional storage. It will be well stored products, because it does not pass moisture, maintains a constant temperature and well ventilated. However, all these conditions will be observed only when choosing a quality caisson and professional competent installation.

Construction of the cellar

When deciding how to build a cellar for storing vegetables, it is necessary to provide for its most important properties:

  • Ensuring optimal temperature and humidity conditions at any time of the year,
  • Elimination of excess moisture
  • Removal of accumulated gases and odors
  • Provision for the construction of the necessary volume of the premises, based on the size of the pledged products,
  • Disinsection,
  • Dust protection
  • Convenience and comfort in use.

How to store vegetables in the cellar so that they remain juicy and tasty until next season? It is necessary to choose the type of premises in which the harvest will be placed.

According to the type of construction, the cellar for storing vegetables can be completely buried in the ground, partially come to the surface or be completely located on the ground. Also, cellars for storing vegetables are made under the house or stand-alone structures.

Peculiarities of food storage in the cellar

Products are well stored in dark and cool rooms. In a private house this is the basement and cellar premises. How to store vegetables so that they do not spoil?

The best is the division of space into 2 sections - for fresh vegetables and for fermented and salted foods.

The temperature in the cellar in the winter should be at least 2 degrees Celsius. It is forbidden to store those vegetables that have already begun to deteriorate, otherwise you can ruin the entire crop.

In the spring, before the onset of heat, it is necessary to clean the room, remove all shelves and storage tanks, clean them with an alkaline mixture, dry in the sun, lime on the walls of the room.

If a plastic cellar is dug in the area, then disinfection work is greatly simplified. Arrangement of the plastic cellars with their own hands is much easier both in installation and maintenance.

If a mold or a fungus appears on the walls, it is necessary to dry them thoroughly, preferably with hot coals or electric emitters, then degrease and disinfect with salicylic acid and uyat spirit, which will successfully remove stains and prevent their reappearance.

If rodents appeared in the cellar, the floors and all the racks are covered with dried chamomile, and the passages are additionally covered with broken glass. From above, all the holes are covered with clay and cement or lime. It is possible to buy special mixtures or solutions for pest control, but having previously specified from the seller whether it will cause damage to the products.

In order for the room to be cool and keep the optimum temperature, you need a cooler. For this purpose, either a conditioner for the cellar is bought, or forced ventilation is made.

Preparation of products for storage

The main rule of good preservation of supplies is their preliminary preparation for the tab. To do this, carry out the selection of low-quality copies:

  • Only healthy specimens are selected for laying, without damage to the mechanical type,
  • All vegetables and fruits should be stored separately, except onions and garlic, potatoes and beets, carrots and beets - these types of vegetables are perfectly stored with a joint tab,
  • It is necessary to provide the right temperature for each type of product. Humidity, as well as heat, is kept stable, without drops,
  • It is regularly necessary to inspect all supplies, removing spoiled or dried specimens.

How to store different types of vegetables and fruits in the cellar

Since in the cellar to store vegetables during the winter is available to any gardener and the owner of a private house, you need to understand that for different products storage conditions must also be different:

Potatoes are stored in the cellar in bulk or in containers with almost no loss until the laying of a new portion. The crop is dug in a dry sunny day, not with a shovel, but with a fork, so as not to damage the fruit. When laying in the equipped cellar they are not poured from a great height, so that there are no broken specimens and a violation of the integrity of the peel.

Cabbage is stored in a cellar with a pair of green covering sheets. The stump is cut off not at the very base of the head, but at a distance of a couple of centimeters. You can pile all the heads of cabbages together, but it’s better to hang them up by tying them in pairs. Then the cabbage will keep the desired condition until spring. The temperature for storing cabbage should be near zero.

In sauerkraut cabbage sprinkled with sugar on top regularly, just one tablespoon is enough. This is due to the fact that when sauerkraut sugar is converted into vinegar, which protects it from damage.
